Edtech and Elmer Fudd

OK, in this post I’m not going to talk about Elmer Fudd but rather a distant cousin – the FUD factor. What is the FUD factor? Unfortunately, it’s something that rules many aspects of our lives. FUD stands for

  • Fear
  • Uncertainty
  • Doubt

When faced with something new, or sometimes just different, it’s natural to react with fear or uncertainty about the new thing and doubt that it’s worth our time. Or doubt that we can figure out what’s worth our time, since there are so many new things all the time – especially when it comes to technology.

So how do you overcome FUD in your life? First you have to acknowledge that it’s normal, and will keep rearing it’s ugly head. Deal with it, because it ‘aint gonna just go away. The best way to battle FUD is with FUD – but this time I mean

  • Focus
  • Unison
  • Doing

Overcome your fear by focusing on what you want to accomplish, rather than barriers to your success. Overcome uncertainty by working in unison with others and collaborating on shared goals. You’d be surprised the confidence you gain simply by partnering with another person. Overcome doubt by beginning to do what it is you want to do. It’s OK, start small! Baby steps lead to bigger steps, more successes, and greater confidence. Once you start seeing progress, you’ll be off and running.

So, how do you get started and who do you collaborate with? Start by creating a learning network – people you can share ideas with, ask questions of, and bounce ideas off of. LinkedIn and Twitter are two great places to find this. Then, utilize the many resources that are available online – other people who share resources they find, and those who create resources when they can’t find what they’re looking for.

Here are a couple of resources I created, that you can use and share.

Let me know any other great ones you find! Happy learning 🙂
